Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Cook to join our team at a licensed board and care facility. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the health and well-being of our residents by preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals in accordance with individual dietary needs. The ideal candidate will have experience cooking for groups in a healthcare or residential care setting and will be responsible for meal planning, food preparation, budgeting, and grocery shopping.

You will also work closely with a dietitian and care team to ensure that all meals meet the nutritional and dietary requirements of residents, many of whom are elderly or require assistance with daily living.

  • Prepare and serve daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) in accordance with the facility's menu, dietary guidelines, and resident preferences
  • Collaborate with a registered dietitian to accommodate special diets, food allergies, and medical nutrition needs
  • Manage the kitchen's food budget and purchasing process, ensuring cost-effective shopping and minimal waste
  • Shop for groceries and supplies or place orders as needed to maintain adequate inventory
  • Monitor food inventory and expiration dates to ensure safe and fresh food preparation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen that meets all food safety and health regulations
  • Maintain food preparation logs, temperature logs, and other documentation as required by licensing standards
  • Assist with kitchen staff training or supervision, as applicable

Rate: 20/hr



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license (if driving is required for the position) and reliable transportation
  • No more than two minor moving violations in the past 3 years
  • No major violations (DUI, Careless, Reckless, Serious Speed, Driving While License Suspended, etc) in the past 5 years
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with clients, families, staff and other customers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for individuals' privacy
  • Prior experience as a cook in a residential care, assisted living, or healthcare setting strongly preferred
  • Strong budgeting, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to shop for groceries and manage food inventory
  • Excellent time management and teamwork skills
