Description The Family Development Center is looking to hire an Extra Help Cook. This position assists current staff with cooking and serving all meals per a specified menu and time schedule, maintains cleaning and sanitizing requirements, ensures kitchen inventories, and follows all compliance regulations of the State Board of Health regulations, CACFP guidelines, State of Illinois Child Care Regulations and Early Head Start regulations. Essential Responsibilities 1. Cook and serve all meals per specified menu and time schedule 2. Prepare PM snack and AM snack for evening and next morning, prior to leaving for the day 3. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dishes after all meals and snacks 4. Purchase necessary food items for snack and meal preparation 5. Wash and sterilize bottles and nipples for infants 6. Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and food items. 7. Attends required/requested CACFP, State Board of Health and/or Early Head Start training programs. 8. Assures all procedures are in compliance with the State Board of Health regulations, CACFP guidelines, State of Illinois Child Care Regulations and Early Head Start regulations. 9. Completes required CACFP, State Board of Health and/or Early Head Start paperwork in a timely manner. 10. In coordination with supervisor and Administrative Coordinator, order and/or purchase food from grocery store as needed. 11. Supervise Culinary Worker II; assign and review Culinary Worker's II work; train and evaluate Culinary Worker II. 12. Comply with regulatory health requirements, including: a pre-employment physical with lift test, proof of MMR and DTAP immunization, initial TB test and annual physical exam. 13. Attend all meetings and training as required. 14. Adhere to all plans, policies and procedures of Governors State University, Family Development Center and Early Head Start. 15. Attend other related meetings and training as requested. 16. Proactive Leader - Works well without close supervision and demonstrates initiative. 17. Assists with questions and problems courteously and promptly Required and Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Interact and serve guest in a friendly efficient manner, answering questions and accommodating special request. Comply with proper food handling, cleaning schedules, sanitation, and safety procedures at all times. Responsible for monitoring inventory levels and placing appropriate orders with the storeroom manager. Prep for next day and be available for any special requests. Set up and maintain a clean, organized grill station throughout service. Serve at lunch and continue to batch cook while also taking care of all guests. After lunch service, take food off line and discard or cool product down properly and put away. Clean steam table and grill, including area underneath the counter. Continue to wipe down area, do GFS order, prep for the next day. Qualifications Qualifications List required and preferred qualifications (up to 10). Include education, skills and experience. Cooking experience with knowledge of how to prepare eggs, sauces, casseroles and sandwiches. Volume production and batch cooking is a must. Self-motivated, excellent communication skills with proven track record in providing excellent guest service. Must be able to follow verbal instructions, written recipes and instructions for menu items. Knowledge of the Foodservice menu system, knowledge of the GFS ordering system and the ability to order using the GFS computer ordering system. Cashiering experience. Proactive team player, flexible with strong organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to adapt to change in a positive manner. HS Diploma or GED Overtime required, flexible work schedule at times. Willing to work in any other job duties that may be assigned.
